You can deposit checks from your smartphone or tablet.

To deposit checks on an iPhone® or iPad®, or with an AndroidTM phone or tablet, you must have an Interest Checking, Money Market or High Yield Savings account.

With Remote Deposits you can:

  • Deposit checks 24/7

  • Rest easy — we email you right away to confirm that we received your check.
  • See your deposit in your account the next business day.*
  • Avoid the delays of mail-in deposits.

You can deposit up to six checks in one business day, as long as the total doesn’t exceed $30,000. All checks must be payable to you and drawn on a U.S. bank in US Dollars.

How to Get Started

You can deposit checks from your Apple® or AndroidTM smartphones and tablets into your Interest Checking, Money Market or High Yield Savings accounts. Just follow these steps:

Download the TIAA Direct® Mobile Banking app through your respective app store or visit tiaadirect.com from your mobile browser, and select the “Download Mobile App” button.

  • Launch the app.
  • Log in with the same User ID and Password you use to access your accounts online.
  • Click on the Menu icon in the top left, then select Check Deposit and follow the prompts. (If you don’t see “Check Deposit,” you can’t use this service because your camera lacks the ability to auto-focus).

Remember to endorse your check and write your account number before taking a photo of the back of it. Once complete, learn what to do with your deposited check.

    What types of checks can I deposit?
    Using the TIAA Direct app, you can deposit checks or money orders that are:

    • Made payable to you
    • Drawn on a U.S. bank and in U.S. dollars

    You may not deposit any of the following into your TIAA Direct account:

    • foreign checks
    • U.S. savings bonds
    • post-dated checks
    • traveler’s checks
    • credit card cash advance/balance transfer checks
    • checks made out to a person whose name is not on the account
    • “starter” checks without an imprinted name and address
    • checks dated more than 12 months prior to the date of deposit
  • What types of checks can I deposit?
  • Is there a limit to the dollar amount or number of checks I can deposit?

    Yes. You can deposit up to six checks in one business day, and the total can’t exceed $30,000. If you exceed that amount, the check that put you over the limit will be declined. However, we may make exceptions for higher deposits. To make a request, please call us at 855-842-2372.

    FYI: Business days are Monday through Friday, excluding bank holidays

  • Is there a limit to the dollar amount or number of checks I can deposit?
  • When will my deposit be credited to my account?

    If your deposit is approved, your check will be credited to your account no later than the next business day. (This also applies to checks you deposit on weekends or bank holidays.)

    FYI: Funds may not be immediately available for withdrawal.
